John Barrett is a karate champion who, believe it or not, is a protégé of the legendary former champion Chuck Norris. He made his film debut as an assassin in 1980's The Octagon. In 1985, John not only co-starred but choreographed the fight sequences for the action packed Gymkata. However, I feel his best film is 1990's American Kickboxer, which was one of his first leading roles. Aside from acting, John has also worked as a stuntman and even worked as a fight and stunt choreographer. Today, John works as a martial arts instructor in California.

    Bio and martial arts background

John is a protégé of the legendary Chuck Norris and a Karate Champion. John trained directly under Chuck and is now a 3rd degree black belt. John has been training since 1972.

John's career started alongside Chuck in The Octagon in 1980, in which he starred and had stunts. John can be seen in many more cool action movies, as an actor, but also a stuntman.

Throughout his movie career he was also great as a coordinator and fight stager. his most remarkable roles were in Shootfighter as an actor and stunt coordinator, and To The Death, the sequel to his own American Kickboxer 1.

John had the privilege of working with Chuck Norris, several time with Richard Norton and Bolo Yeung. Now he doesn't act anymore but is a professional trainer. John is currently the owner and head instructor at the 'John Barrett American Martial Arts Academy where people can train in Shotokan, Judo, Aikido, Kickboxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Tang Soo Do and Western boxing.

In 1963 Chuck Norris, who would become one of the most respected karate fighters in the world, established his first school in Torrance south of Los Angeles.
